Do Align pants pill? Does Nulu fabric pill? Will my lululemon leggings keep their shape? How to wash lululemon leggings – and more of your commonly asked questions answered.
It may seem like black leggings and just black leggings, but let me tell you, they are not! Especially when it comes to lululemon leggings. Each legging is designed with a specific purpose in mind – whether it is for working out, yoga or just hanging out. I wrote a post breaking down lululemon leggings by fabric and style. Following that, I received loads of questions regarding lululemon leggings and fabrics.
I rounded up the most commonly asked lululemon leggings questions and answered them here.

Your Common lululemon Leggings Questions:
Does sweat show on lululemon leggings?
lululemon leggings are great, but they’re not magic! On black fabrics, sweat does not show. On printed fabrics, sweat does not show (especially in Luxtreme, Nulux & Everlux).
For any solid, block colour (especially lighter colours), sweat will show. It will dry quickly, but it will show, in all fabrics.
Does sweat show on Align Pants? Yes – on colour Align pants and crops sweat will show. On solid black pants & prints, sweat will show ever so slightly.
Does sweat show on Everlux? On colour Everlux pants, sweat will show. Sweat will not show on solid black pants. And on most prints, sweat will not show.
Does sweat show on Luxtreme? On solid black and prints, sweat will not show. This is a great fabric for super sweaty endeavors. However, like most other fabrics, sweat will show on the solid block colour pants.
How do I wash lululemon leggings?
My best advice is to wash on cold with other lululemon leggings or workout fabrics and then lay to dry. The fabrics will last longer, won’t pick up other fabrics making them pill and they dry super quickly anyways so no need to pop them in dryer.
If your leggings are coming out of the washing machine with visible white, pilled balls, this is because they have picked up another fabric such as cotton, towels or sweatshirts.
How come my leggings are pilling in certain spots?
Pilling in one spot is typically the result of something constantly rubbing on that spot.
For example, if there is pilling on the back of your calf and you’ve worn boots with your leggings, the boots rubbing up against that spot will cause them to pill.
Similarly, if you always use a cross-body purse that hits your upper thigh and you are experiencing pilling in that exact spot it hit, the consistent rubbing from the purse is the culprit!
Ah! They’re pilling all over.
The only fabrics I’ve seen this happen in is Luon & Nulu. This is generally because, although the fabrics are comfortable to wear every single day, they’re not actually designed for that. Both fabrics will pick up other fabrics – such as animal hair, blankets, cotton, sweatshirts, couch lint, leading to them pill and wear quicker. Be mindful of how you’re using your leggings and how you’re washing them to get the most out of them.
Does Nulu Fabric pill? Do Align Pants pill?
Align pants have garnered the title of being the world’s most comfortable pant to do pretty much everything in – including sit on the couch.
It is important to know that Align pants are designed for low sweat activities such as yoga, pilates and meditation.
If you use the pants for other activities – such as running and working out, you will notice quicker pilling in between the legs. That is because the fabric is rubbing, leading it to pill.
Similarly, if you are rubbing up on couch fabric, carpets and sweatshirts, you will notice pilling quicker.
If you are mindful of the other fabrics touching your Align pants, you should have no issues with them pilling.
Hot tip: these are also the best maternity pant on the market!! Go up one size from your normal size and they will take you from day 1 through to delivery and then right after.
Do lululemon leggings keep their shape?
Yes! Very, very well. Lycra is added to almost every fabric for shape retention. There are no saggy knees allowed here!
Why are some waistbands tighter than others?
Most leggings designed for high sweat activities (Luxtreme, Everlux) have a tight elastic around the very top of the waistband and side paneling that supports muscle compression.
In comparison, most styles designed for low sweat (Luon, Nulu), have a high-waisted band but with no elastic around the very top.
This design is intentional. It is to ensure that for high sweat activities where you are moving around a lot, the leggings stay tight on your waist, eliminating the need to hike them up. For the low sweat styles of leggings (Luon, Nulu) these are intentionally designed with a flat, non-elastic waistband for activities such as yoga and pilates, as well as for everyday comfortable wear.
The exception to this rule is Everlux – styles show up with both waistband designs as the fabric is versatile between high and low sweat options.
