This isn’t news to anyone, I wouldn’t suspect. Ginger, lemon, cayenne pepper shots are commonly found on most grocery store shelves these days, at the boutique juicery around the corner and on most blogs. But why does this particular combination actually work as an immune booster?
Let’s break down each of these ingredients further:
Lemons
Lemons are loaded with vitamin C – the first thing people think of when they think of fighting off an oncoming cold. Not only that, they contain soluble fibre. Soluble fibres are absorbed by water and turn into a gel-like substance that supports strong gut health.
Ginger
Fresh root ginger is recommended as a way to address many different health needs. Some of the most common needs being: supporting your immune system, calming nausea or treating indigestion. This is all due to the strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory aspects of the ginger root.
Cayenne Pepper
Cayenne pepper is the result of fresh cayenne peppers being dried and crushed into spice form. This little spice has some big kick and big health benefits for the size of it. Overall, cayenne pepper is an antioxidant, containing the popular vitamin C and vitamin E. These two properties alone possess great health benefits, including speeding up your metabolism, reducing inflammation and boosting your immune system.
Combine all these 3 ingredients together using a juicer and you have a powerful immune booster combination. And unlike your traditional green or orange juice, you will want to ingest this in a much smaller portion – and fast! It has quite the bite.
Immune Booster Shot
Equipment
- Juicer
Ingredients
- 4 lemons
- 2 inch cube fresh ginger
- ¼-½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Remove the skin from the lemons. This can be done with a peeler or a knife. There are loads of nutrients that live right under the thick skin, you can leave this on. If you are using a juicer, the juicer will be able to process this.
- Cut the fresh into a smaller cube and remove the skin. This can be easily done with a spoon, using a similar motion to how you would peel an apple.
- Add the ginger to the juicer.
- Then add the lemon to the juicer.
- Because the lemon will produce more liquid, by juicing it second, it helps flush out any leftover ginger that may be hiding in the juicer.
- Transfer the lemon and ginger mix to a glass and stir in the cayenne pepper thoroughly, so no large chunks of cayenne pepper are left sitting at the top.
- Divide into smaller portions and enjoy!
