I’m so excited to share my Konny Baby Carrier Review. It has been one of my most used newborn essentials. But before I get to the review, let’s back up just a little bit…
When getting all my newborn essentials together while pregnant, one of the things I was most looking forward to was using a baby wrap carrier for babywearing. How cute to have your little one all curled on you, I thought. But what I was hesitant about was how to actually do it. How do I wrap a baby carrier up – and quickly? I then ironically (but actually not ironically at all, that is how ads work these days) was served an ad on instagram for a cotton baby carrier you didn’t have to wrap called the Konny Baby Carrier.
I put it on my registry right away and was given it by a dear friend who is NICU nurse. In the NICU, the nurses love the Konny Baby Carrier because of the fact that you don’t have to wrap it. All you have to do is put it on like a T-shirt and slide the baby in.
Once my babe arrived, I was really looking forward to using my new baby carrier wrap. I know babies love to be close to their momma’s when they are little and the Konny Baby Carrier allows for just that. Their little heads can lay on your chest and listen to your heartbeat – something they love to do as they just did it for 9 months!
I have been using it religiously since the first few weeks of bringing our little one home. Read on for my full and honest (and non-gifted) Konny Baby Carrier review.
What is the Konny Baby Carrier?
The Konny Baby Carrier is branded as a hassle-free baby wrap carrier. You simply slide the Konny Baby Carrier on like a T-shirt, tug in a few spots to ensure a safe fit and then slide your baby in.
The Konny Baby Carrier mimics your traditional baby carrier wrap or sling without needing to do any wrapping.
The Konny Baby Carrier is designed by two parents who were looking for a way to alleviate wrist pain from holding their baby all the time, while ensuring safety for the baby and comfort and ease for the parents.
How does sizing work for the Konny Baby Carrier?
The Konny Baby Carrier comes in sizes XXS – XXXL.
This sizing is female specific.
Using the sizing guide, the Konny website can help you determine your best fit.
The general rule of thumb is to go with your normal size in T-shirts. The fabric will stretch out over time as your baby grows.
I am 5’7 and tend to wear a small T-shirt, sometimes medium. To ensure I did not go too small, I ordered the medium Konny Baby Carrier and it is perfect.
Can my husband and I both use the Konny Baby Carrier?
No! This is for safety purposes. When you think of a traditional baby carrier wrap that you wrap yourself, you have the ability to make it as tight or loose as you need based on who is using it.
Konny Baby is taking the step of wrapping away, in which case, you cannot adjust the size of the carrier.
For safety purposes, you do not want to be using a carrier that is too big. It puts your little one at risk of injury and instability.
What’s in the Box
How to Use Konny Baby Carrier
It is as simple as this: slide it over your head like a T-shirt. Tug the back down so it sits just above your lower back. Adjust the fabric so it sits snug over your shoulders. Pick your baby up. If facing you, slide their left leg in first. Adjust the fabric over their bum. Slide the right leg in. Adjust the fabric to ensure legs are in “M” position. And then finally, wrap the sash around for extra support and safety.
A video says 1000 words. Check out how to put it on here for a visual.
The instruction manual that comes inside the box is also exceptionally detailed, answering all my most wondered questions about how to wear it.
Ages for Konny Baby Carrier
The Konny Baby Carrier is designed for newborns to toddlers, up to a weight of 44lbs.
You can begin using the baby carrier once your baby is born, ensuring they are in the newborn position, for about the first month of their little lives.
Original vs. Summer Carrier
The Konny Baby Carrier comes in two versions: Original and SUMMER.
What is the difference? The only difference is the fabric!
The Original is made out of a cotton and polyester blend fabric that feels warm and soft. The fabric has antibacterial properties and is great to wear throughout all seasons.
The SUMMER version is made out of a lightweight mesh, designed for those much hotter months and is intended to keep you and your babe cool when spending so much time so close together.
Both have a variety of colour options to choose from, with the Original having a few more options than the SUMMER.
PROS: What I Love About the Konny Baby Carrier Original
I love all things simple, especially when it comes to motherhood, and this is exactly that – it is so simple! Simple design, simple to use – and hugely impactful.
The design keeps hip safety top of mind. Hip placement for newborns and growing babies is very important. You want to ensure that babies knees are kept above their hips, creating an M shape, when in a carrier. The Konny Baby Carrier is designed perfectly to ensure this is the case.
I LOVE how easy it is to put on. You simply slide it on like a T-Shirt, adjust in a few spots then slide the baby in.
The fabric is super soft and comfortable. And – very easy clean. Pop into the machine solo on cold and you are good to go.
The weight of the baby is distributed evenly across the back and shoulders, allowing me to wear it for a good amount of time without feeling any pain or discomfort. The large paneling on the back makes the whole carrier feel really safe and sturdy.
It is really easy to have your baby’s head out if they want to peak around and when they’re ready to sleep, it is super simple to cover their head for extra support.
When your baby’s head is tucked in, they feel secure and the fabric is soft and gentle on their head and skin.
Because of the design, I can always see her face which is an absolute necessity of babywearing. You always want to know your little one is breathing.
You can take it off without it getting all twisted. I will admit – I am not the most graceful when it comes to taking the carrier off with a sleeping baby in it but I can take it off in whichever weird direction or way I feel like in that moment and it never gets twisted.
It comes with the most convenient carry bag to store your carrier and sash in when not in use. This ensures that I never separate the two pieces.
CONS: What I Don’t Love
I found getting my baby in at the new-newborn stage (weeks 0 to 4) to be a challenge. It might have just been because as a FTM I thought she was extra fragile, but I couldn’t get the frog leg positioning correct when I used it at this age.
I have to do a pretty good lower backbend to get my baby in safely but I have to do this with the Baby Bjorn Carrier as well.
Taking the baby out is the hardest part for me. I have not mastered how to gently remove her from the carrier, while sleeping or awake, if I can not use a bed to help me put her right onto and slide her feet out. I think it just takes practice.
Do I recommend it?
Yes, I do! As noted, this Konny Baby Carrier review is entirely my own opinion. The Konny Baby was recommended to me by a NICU nurse who swears by it in the NICU – and I am so glad she did.
Where to Buy
You can purchase the Konny Baby Carrier directly from their website.
I am loving the ability to wear my little one so close to me. Babywearing was something I was so looking forward to it and now that I can do it, I love it even more than I thought. It is by far one of my most-used newborn essentials.
